Model #: Panasonic TH-50PH9 Plasma Display
Worked great for the 5+ years we’ve owned it – until we returned home from Labor Day weekend… Now it works for a couple of hours and then picture turns black and you can’t get any of on-screen menus to appear (using buttons on TV or remote). Called Panasonic ProDisplaySupport – very helpful – had me plug directly into wall instead of surge protector/power strip, tried connecting display to DirectTV receiver with new component video cables, and unplugged display for 15 minutes before plugging it back in. Worked great for 2-3 hours tonight after being unplugged all day. Then screen went black. Unplugged for 15 mins and worked fine for about 30 seconds before screen went black again. Haven’t been able to get picture to reappear since. Will leave unplugged tonight and try again in morning. Almost seems like something is heating up after display works fine for a few hours and eventually shuts down. Panasonic rep referred me to you so I’ll be calling tomorrow morning to get your thoughts and schedule an appt if you feel it makes sense to take a look and possibly repair instead of tossing and buying a new unit. Thanks.

IHTS – Troy, I would suspect something in the video processing circuit. Most likely the main pcb since it is not shutting down or giving you an error code. Unfortunately it is not something common in that model.
